Ostensibly, his work is meant to highlight Eunice Hunton Carter’s work on New York Special Prosecutor Thomas E. Dewey’s team that in 1936 indicted and convicted Lucky Luciano. When she noticed that upon arrest most prostitutes were represented by the same criminal defense attorney — Abe Karp — she devised the strategy of raiding brothel houses, arresting prostitutes, and having them cooperate against the attorney and bookers who ultimately tied back to the mob head.
