Barry J. Pollack Sworn in as 2016-17 President of Nation's Criminal Defense Bar
Barry J. Pollack of Washington, DC was sworn in as President of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) by United States District Judge Amit P. Mehta at the Association's Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, FL, on August 13. Mr. Pollack is a Member at Miller & Chevalier in Washington, DC, where he serves as chair of the firm's White Collar & Internal Investigations practice. Mr. Pollack is a former Assistant Federal Public Defender and is best known as a skilled trial lawyer.
Rick Jones Receives Prestigious 2016 Heeney Award from Nation’s Criminal Defense Bar
New York City attorney Rick Jones has been chosen as the 2016 recipient of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ (NACDL) Robert C. Heeney Memorial Award. He received the award at the Association’s annual membership meeting on August 13 in Palm Beach, FL. This highly prestigious honor is presented annually to the NACDL member who best demonstrates the goals and values of the Association and of the legal profession. Rick was also installed as NACDL’s President Elect at NACDL’s annual board meeting.
Tiffany May Joslyn White Collar Crime Policy Internship
NACDL is looking for a law student intern with a commitment to criminal defense issues to engage in a variety of projects related to federal policy analysis, nonprofit advocacy, and criminal defense scholarship. The Tiffany May Joslyn White Collar Crime Policy Internship was created in memory and honor of Tiffany Joslyn’s significant contributions to the cause of criminal justice reform, particularly in the areas of white collar and regulatory crime, overcriminalization, and the erosion of due process protections in the criminal justice system.
Symposium Report: The Fourth Amendment in the Digital Age
To address the new threats to Fourth Amendment protections posed by the digital age, NACDL, the Foundation for Criminal Justice, the American University Washington College of Law, and the Criminal Law Practitioner presented a symposium entitled “The Fourth Amendment in the Digital Age.” This report offers an overview of the symposium and the substantive areas of concern related to new technological and legal changes that impact Fourth Amendment protections in criminal cases.
New Report: Summary Injustice - A Look at Constitutional Deficiencies in South Carolina's Summary Courts
During several weeks from December 2014 to July 2015, attorneys from NACDL and the ACLU observed court sessions in 27 different South Carolina magistrate and municipal courts. This report documents the constitutional violations witnessed in these courts, including failure to inform defendants of their rights, denial of counsel, and jailing those who are unable to pay.
Group Admission to the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court
NACDL is once again pleased to sponsor an opportunity for up
to 12 members to participate in a group admission ceremony to the Bar of the
U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. Participation in this ceremony, in which
admittees are administered the oath of admission by the Chief Justice of the
United States in the well of the Supreme Court, will be available to the first
12 qualified members on a first-come, first-served basis and will take place on
the morning of January 9, 2017.

NACDL is pleased to announce a new program of scholarship assistance for indigent defense providers. The scholarships will foster access for both public and private defenders of the indigent accused to outstanding criminal defense training programs nationwide. The scholarships, which are supported by various grants, will be awarded in the form of full or partial reimbursement of the registration costs of the excellent training programs offered by NACDL and other organizations. Limited travel reimbursement stipends may also be awarded.
