Performance Under Pressure: Sustaining Yourself and Your Team in Capital Defense

Online - No CLE credits are being offered for this program

Program Summary:

Capital defense means long cases, graphic evidence, high stakes, and the weight of a client’s life. Most people on capital teams have felt the toll, but few talk about it openly or have a plan for managing it. In this panel, experienced capital defense professionals will speak candidly about how the work wears on them and what has helped them stay in it, both for their own sake and for the sake of their clients. Panelists will discuss:
•    Recognizing when stress is starting to affect your work
•    Managing workload and exposure to traumatic material over the life of a case
•    Supporting one another through trial, post-conviction, and execution-related work
•    What they wish they’d known earlier in their careers
Sustaining the people who do this work is essential to the clients who depend on them. This program is a must for every member of the capital defense team, including attorneys, mitigation specialists, investigators, paralegals, and support staff.
