Program Summary:

While the failings of our legal system are well documented, there is a pathway forward. Centering on the experiences of public defense lawyers and the communities they serve, join us for a compelling conversation with Emily Galvin Almanza, author of The Price of Mercy: Unfair Trials, a Violent System, and a Public Defender’s Search for Justice in America. Together, we will explore tangible, proven ideas that can help transform our criminal legal system and examine the pivotal role public defenders play in advancing justice.

Facilitated by Washoe County Deputy Public Defender Jennifer Rains, this frank and solutions-focused discussion will confront where we are today, envision where we want to be, and—most importantly—chart practical steps for how we can get there. Grounded in real-world experiences, we will have a critical conversation on how we can all construct a better future.
