Learn More About the Death Penalty
NACDL worked with the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (LACDL) on advancing death penalty repeal legislation in Louisiana. In 2017, NACDL issued a series of legislative action alerts in support of death penalty repeal bills HB 101 and SB 142. NACDL also collaborated with the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (NCADP) and the 90 Million Strong Coalition in support of repeal efforts. SB 142 successfully advanced from the Senate Judiciary Committee but was not considered for a vote in the full Senate. HB 101 failed to advance in the House Criminal Justice Committee.
