In white-collar criminal cases, the government often tries to use data and charts to prove their case, but defense lawyers can push back on this at trial. This session will help you identify ways to use data to cross-examine government witnesses, to make defense points, to undercut peer comparisons, and to show sentencing disparities. This session builds off Stephen Lee's 2024 Champion article, Data for Defense Lawyers, and will draw on real-life examples from actual trials.
Presented by former federal prosecutor and NACDL member Stephen Chahn Lee; and Michael Yaeger, white collar defense attorney at Carlton Fields
Wednesday, July 16 beginning at 2pm ET / 11am PT
