Making Justice a Reality for Those Farthest From Its Reach

As Chair of the Board of the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem, I worked with Rick Jones for 25 years, yet it is almost absurd for me to introduce him to you. Rick has, after all, been a vital part of NACDL for many years, serving on your board, as your parliamentarian and as the chair of several committees. You have also honored Rick with the Champion of Justice Award and Robert C. Heeney Memorial Award. Sure, he’s a great guy, deserving of every honor he’s received, but the thing that has most struck me about Rick is that he’s like a kid who has just gotten a new bicycle. Every day. The joy and enthusiasm doesn’t ever abate. More than that, though, Kid Rick doesn’t see the bike as something to pedal up and down the street, he figures out how to pop wheelies, ride it
