United States v. Adams

NYC Mayor Eric Adams was indicted in Sept. 2024 on federal corruption and campaign finance charges. In Jan. 2025, DOJ moved to dismiss without prejudice because "continuing these proceedings would interfere with … federal immigration initiatives." The Court said that while it could not force the government to prosecute a case, "dismissing the case without prejudice would create the unavoidable perception that the Mayor's freedom depends on his ability to carry out the immigration enforcement priorities of the administration . . ." The Court dismissed the indictment with prejudice.
