Abbe David Lowell Receives Champion of Justice Award from Nation's Criminal Defense Bar

Washington, DC (Sep. 24, 2025) – The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the NACDL Foundation for Criminal Justice (NFCJ) presented the Champion of Justice Award to Abbe David Lowell at a reception in his honor in Washington, DC. Champion of Justice Awards are bestowed upon those individuals who have staunchly preserved or defended the constitutional rights of individuals in the United States and have endeavored to ensure justice and due process for persons accused of crime.

Abbe David Lowell is frequently recognized by numerous legal publications as one of the most successful white collar defense and trial attorneys in the United States and has been named as one of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in the country. He recently founded the firm Lowell & Associates, PLLC, which provides representation across civil, criminal, compliance, congressional, and regulatory matters with a focus on public interest representation in matters that defend the integrity of the legal system.

Speaking to his fellow criminal defense lawyers, Abbe David Lowell said, “Every day of our careers, we are the defenders of not just our clients, but democracy. Every day that we represent one client that pushes back against the power of the government, that makes the government prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt, that makes the judges of this country pay attention to everything from whether or not the charges are well-suited, to what a proper sentence should be, we are defenders of democracy.”

Lowell has successfully tried high-profile criminal and civil cases ranging from public corruption, financial fraud (securities, bank, tax, accounting, bankruptcy), conspiracy, defamation, civil rights, election law, obstruction and false statements, APA, unfair trade practices, and the Foreign Agents Registration and Espionage Acts before juries in more than 15 different states and over 20 federal districts. He also has argued appeals in more than half of the federal courts of appeals, the highest courts in half a dozen states, and before the U.S. Supreme Court. He has represented clients in numerous congressional oversight and other hearings as well as enforcement actions brought by various federal agencies, state attorneys general, and local prosecutors.

"Abbe David Lowell's unwavering commitment to defending constitutional rights, his mastery in navigating complex and high-profile cases, and his dedication to the integrity of our justice system set him apart as a true champion of criminal legal representation,” said NACDL Executive Director Lisa Wayne. “His work not only safeguards due process for the accused, but also reinforces the foundational principles upon which our legal system stands."
