United States v. Adani et al.

Defendant, Gautam Adani, a very wealthy Indian national, and seven of his associates in his business were charged in October 2024 under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act with conspiracy to pay bribes to secure lucrative solar contracts in India. In May 2026, the Department of Justice decided to abandon the criminal prosecution of the defendants and others. The defendants simultaneously settled a parallel SEC enforcement action by paying a fine of $18 million and a separate investigation by the Treasury Department relating to alleged violations of Iran sanctions with a $275 million fine.
