Biography
Norm Mueller is a member of Haddon, Morgan and Foreman P.C. which Chambers USA describes as a premier Denver-based practice offering a wide range of litigation services, including white-collar criminal defense and civil disputes. With his unique combination of trial and appellate skills, Norm has vigorously represented thousands of clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts and before professional regulatory boards.
After falling in love with Colorado in the summer of 1970 while working as a cement finisher on the construction of the Eisenhower tunnel under the Continental Divide and deciding he might prefer a job with an office and no heavy lifting, Norm graduated from the University of Kansas with distinction in 1971 and then ventured to the east coast to graduate from Yale Law School in 1974. He returned to Colorado to begin his legal career as a Deputy State Public Defender in 1974. Norm worked in the Appellate Division and the Denver Regional Trial Office, serving as Chief Appellate Deputy from 1978 to 1980. He entered private practice in 1980, forming his own firm of Allen, Foreman and Mueller and then joined Haddon, Morgan and Foreman in 1983.
Norm has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for many years in several categories, Appellate, Criminal Defense and Commercial Litigation, and was named the Denver appellate lawyer of the year in 2011 and 2017. He has been named a Colorado Super Lawyer for multiple years in appellate law.
Norm's commitment to professional activities is long standing. He has served on the Colorado Supreme Court Committee on Appellate Rules since 1986 and also is a member of the Evidence Rules Committee. He was a member and chair (2016-2019) of the Judicial Performance Commission for the Second Judicial District, is a member of the Criminal Pattern Jury Instruction Committee for the Tenth Circuit and served two terms as the Colorado representative of the Tenth Circuit Criminal Justice Act Standing Committee. Norm is a Tenth Circuit vice-chair for the Amicus Committee of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is a member of the Board of Directors having previously served on the Board from 2011 until 2019. He is a past president of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar.
Norm also is committed to doing his part in the community. After being a youth sports coach in soccer, baseball, softball and basketball for many years, Norm was a mentor for many years at Denver East High School. He is also a board member for Together with the Children which raises funds for JUCONI (Juntos con los Ninos), an organization that works with street-involved children and their families in Puebla, Mexico.
Norm has handled cases in all but one of Colorado's twenty-two judicial districts. In addition to the federal district court in Colorado and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, he has also appeared in the Second and Sixth Circuit Courts, the Utah Supreme Court, and the United States District Courts for the following districts: Wyoming, Kansas, Western District of Texas, Southern District of New York, Southern District of Indiana, and the Southern District of Florida.
