Rick Stanley

Chief Operating Officer

Richard (Rick) Stanley has worked in the nonprofit field for over a quarter century, beginning as a staff accountant for Service Employees International Union to his current position as Chief Operating Officer of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Most notably, he served 16 years, first as Chief Financial Officer, then in the dual role of Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer at the Jewish Council for the Aging of Greater Washington. In 2006 he received an award for Best Practices and Exemplary Achievements in Not-for-Profit Financial Management. Prior to settling into his career in nonprofit financial leadership he worked numerous jobs in numerous fields including restaurant management, retail sales, residential construction plumbing, and pinball maintenance and repair.

Rick holds and active CPA license in the State of Maryland as well as the AICPA’s Chartered Global Management Accountant certification. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland University College in Business Management with an Accounting emphasis and a minor in Computer and Information Science. His volunteer activities have included youth mentoring, providing pro-bono accounting services to small nonprofits, and serving on numerous boards as trustee, director and officer.

The son of a career Air Force sergeant, Rick came to the DC area as a young child and is proud to have called Washington home ever since.
