Benjamin Au

Director (First Term), Class of 2021

Benjamin Au is a partner at Durie Tangri, a litigation boutique in San Francisco and Los Angeles, where he focuses on white collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation.  Mr. Au has extensive experience in SEC and DOJ actions on topics ranging from fraud to FCPA to export controls.  Mr. Au’s civil practice primarily focuses on the representation of technology-facing clients, from start-ups to Google, in matters involving trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, and business torts.  Mr. Au is a founding partner of Durie Tangri’s Los Angeles office.    

Mr. Au was recognized in 2015 as one of the “Top 20 Under 40” lawyers in California by The Daily Journal.  He was named a “Future Star” by Benchmark Litigation in 2018, and from 2016-2018, was on its “Hot List” of top attorneys in the nation aged 40 and under.  Mr. Au was also named a “Super Lawyer” in the area of business litigation in 2018 and was named a Rising Star in the area of white collar criminal defense and business litigation from 2014-2017.  He is the recipient of the ACLU of Southern California’s “First Amendment Award.”

Prior to joining Durie Tangri, Mr. Au was a shareholder at Caldwell Leslie & Proctor in Los Angeles and, before that, an associate at Keker & Van Nest, in San Francisco. Mr. Au began his legal career as law clerk to the Honorable M. Margaret McKeown, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
