White Collar Crime Policy Counsel

The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), the leading national bar association representing the entire defense bar, is seeking a Counsel to work in its White Collar Crime Policy Department on a variety of white collar criminal defense and overcriminalization initiatives. This staff person is a member of NACDL’s national affairs team and works under the Director of White Collar Crime Policy.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities: 

  • Perform research and writing assignments to support the White Collar Crime Policy Department’s advocacy initiatives
  • Identify and monitor litigation of interest and help facilitate amicus involvement in appropriate cases
  • Track pending federal criminal legislation and regulations
  • Assist in all aspects of planning CLE programs for white collar criminal defense practitioners, as well as planning policy symposia and other events
  • Help create education and advocacy tools and ensure timely online information and resources
  • Assist in drafting of NACDL testimony, administrative comments, and amicus briefs on a variety of white collar and overcriminalization topics

Requirements: 

Qualified candidates will have a J.D. and 1-5 years’ experience in white collar criminal defense. Advocacy in related fields and judicial clerkship experience will be considered. Candidates must have a demonstrated interest in criminal law and policy and share NACDL’s commitment to its mission. Excellent research skills as well as superior oral and written communications skills are a must.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will: 

  • Possess the ability to work independently on multiple projects from start to finish with tight deadlines;
  • Be highly organized, work well with others, and demonstrate an attention to detail; and
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and sound professional judgment.

Some travel required. This position is located at NACDL’s headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C.

Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
