2017 NACDL Special Board Election

NACDL's Board of Directors will hold a special election to fill three vacant seats on the Board. The election will be held at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Directors in Boston, on October 28, 2017. Please note this special election is separate from the regular annual election of officers and directors.

Responsibilities

The Board of Directors manages the business and affairs of the Association.

Eligibility

Any qualified member of the Association who is authorized to vote may submit his or her name as a candidate for the Board of Directors.

Process

Any member wishing to submit his or her name as a candidate for the position of Director shall submit the following by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on October 9, 2017:

  • A statement of qualifications, not to exceed 600 words. The statement of qualifications should include a description of any past service to the Association (including meetings attended, recruitment efforts, and committee work) and to the legal profession.
  • A cover memo that includes the year and jurisdiction of the candidate's bar admission, and that indicates whether the candidate is a member in good standing of his or her respective bar. Additionally, candidates must disclose if they are under indictment or information for any felony or crime involving moral turpitude.
  • Curriculum vitae may also be provided.

The statement of qualifications should be sent by email to NACDL Elections Registrar Daniel Weir at dweir@nacdl.org. Candidates will be responsible for confirming that their materials have been received.

Opportunity to Address the Board

Each candidate will be given the opportunity, if he or she so chooses, to speak briefly regarding his or her qualifications at the meeting of the Board of Directors in Boston, prior to the commencement of the voting. Appearance is optional and no negative inference shall be drawn if a candidate does not attend.

Voting and Term Length

Voting will be conducted by secret ballot. One vacant position is for a term expiring at NACDL's 2018 Annual Meeting. Two vacant positions are for terms expiring at NACDL's 2019 Annual Meeting. The first two elected directors will serve the remainder of the longer terms; if more than two directors are elected on the same ballot, then the longer term will be filled by the candidate recieving the most votes on the first ballot in which candidates are elected.
