Timothy McCarthy

Director, Class of 2020

Timothy McCarthy is a partner at McCarthy & Hamrock P.C. in West Des Moines, Iowa and represents clients charged with both state and federal crimes, including murder, assault, computer crimes, sex crimes, major drug accusations, and complex fraud matters. He has also lectured at Drake Law School at their Trial Advocacy Institute and speaks at numerous criminal law seminars throughout Iowa.

McCarthy is a life member of NACDL and first joined in 1988. He serves on both the Membership Committee and the Mental Health Committee, and regularly attends NACDL seminars. McCarthy is also a long-time member of the Iowa Association of Criminal Defenders Lawyers (IACDL) and currently serves on their Board of Directors. In his capacity with IACDL, McCarthy helps plan their manual meeting and CLE in Des Moines, IA. Additionally, he is a member of the NORML Legal Committee.

McCarthy earned a B.A. from Drake University in 1980 after also attending the University of Kansas. He received his J.D. from Drake University Law School in 1983.
