California Attorney Nan Whitfield Elected to Board of Directors of Nation's Criminal Defense Bar

Washington, DC (Nov. 8, 2017) – California Attorney Nan Whitfield was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) at the Association’s fall meeting, which was held in Boston on October 28, 2017.

Whitfield has served as a Deputy Public Defender with the Los Angeles County Public Defender since 1988, where she is the Deputy In Charge at the Inglewood Branch. She has been the lead counsel in approximately 200 jury trials and specializes in the handling of capital cases in which the penalty is either life without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

An active NACDL member, Whitfield most recently spoke at NACDL’s 2017 Defending Modern Day Drug Crimes conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. Whitfield has lectured in approximately twelve criminal defense conferences and has attended and participated in numerous training and educational seminars across the country. She has also received a number of prestigious awards. In 2011, she was recognized as the Defense Attorney of the Year by the Los Angeles County Bar Association. In 2008, she was named as one of California’s Top 75 Female Litigators.

Whitfield earned her J.D. from Northern Illinois University, College of Law and received her B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
