Habeas Attorney Interest Form

Program Summary:

With over 73,000 immigrants in detention, continuing mass enforcement, and policies that prevent immigrants from seeking release in immigration court, the need for habeas representation has escalated dramatically over the past year. Habeas petitions in federal court have become the only recourse for most detained immigrants, and the need for representation far outpaces available capacity among immigration attorneys and nonprofit organizations. This training will provide an overview of habeas representation in the immigration context and the most common legal challenges detained immigrants can raise. Speakers will also provide information on ways attorneys who want to help can engage.
