EACDL pushes for withheld sentences


In response to a recent court of appeals decision in Indiana, which found the use of a withheld sentence for individuals charged with class D felonies illegal, the Evansville Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers has begun taking an active role in pushing legislation authorizing the long-accepted practice. Numerous EACDL members serve in advisory capacities in the local criminal justice system, including the Work Release Jobs Program, the Community Corrections Complex, and the Public Defender System.
