NACDL News: NACDL’s Shana Regon Discusses Overcriminalization at ABA Criminal Justice Institute

On Oct. 31, NACDL Director of White Collar Crime Policy Shana-Tara Regon spoke on a panel entitled “Fixing a Broken System: An Update on the Work of the Bipartisan House Judiciary Task Force on Overcriminalization” at the ABA’s Criminal Justice Section’s Sixth Annual Fall Institute on Sentencing, Re-entry, Juvenile Justice and Academics in Washington, D.C. The panel was moderated by Professor Stephen Saltzburg, and also featured the following speakers: Democratic Counsel Ron Legrand, Committee on the Judiciary, U.S. House of Representatives; Majority Counsel Caroline Lynch, Committee on the Judiciary, U.S. House of Representatives; Executive Vice President and CEO Percy Pitzer, Creative Corrections; and General Counsel Mary Price, Families Against Mandatory Minimums.
Prior to the panel, U.S. Deputy Attorney General James Cole addressed the attendees regarding the perils of overincarceration and advocated for re-entry programs and drug treatment options.
