Board Members Elevate Cynthia Hujar Orr to President-Elect

At NACDL’s Oct. 26, 2008, Board of Directors meeting in Tampa, Fla., Secretary Steven D. Benjamin nominated First Vice President Cynthia Hujar Orr to fill the post of president-elect, which was left vacant after the resignation of Stephen R. Glassroth. The motion was seconded and the Board unanimously elected Orr president-elect of the Association.

The Elections Committee recommended Orr’s elevation to president-elect in an Oct. 13 report to the Board. The report noted that NACDL Bylaws are not very clear as to how to deal with a vacancy in the office of president-elect. But it also noted that in the event that both the offices of president and president-elect become vacant, the first vice president would assume the duties of president. “It would seem odd for the first vice president to take over as president, should two vacancies arise, as the Bylaws explicitly provide, but not take over as president-
