Underwriting up to $25,000 Proposed Indigent Defense Litigation in Virginia

National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers endorses, supports, and agrees to underwrite up to $25,000 the proposed indigent defense litigation in Virginia.

Director John Zwerling is the coordinator for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for the purposes of this litigation.

The Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers hereby resolves as follows:

WHEREAS Virginia has the lowest fees for court appointed attorneys of any state in the country;

WHEREAS there are non-waivable caps on court appointed attorneys fees in Virginia;

WHEREAS low fees impede the ability of court appointed attorneys in Virginia to provide adequate and effective representation to indigent defendants; and

WHEREAS the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is committed to furthering indigent defense systems which ensure quality representation of all accused individuals;

NOW, THEREFORE,

IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers endorses, supports, and agrees to underwrite up to $25,000 the proposed indigent defense litigation in Virginia.
