The State Legislative Network Announces New and Exciting Plans

State Legislative Network is Now the State Criminal Justice Network

The State Legislative Network is now NACDL’s State Criminal Justice Network. The new name more accurately reflects the vast endeavors of our affiliates and members and increases our visibility as a broad and effective criminal justice network.

9th Annual NACDL State Criminal Justice Network Conference

As you may be aware NACDL’s Annual Conference takes place August 11-14, 2010 in Toronto, Canada, however the State Criminal Justice Network has decided to remain stateside. The 9th Annual conference will be a free standing conference in Washington, DC (yes we know DC is not a state), in mid-September 2010.

Our 8th Annual conference was well received overall, however many of you have asked for a more skills based conference. We will do our best to ensure the 9th Annual Conference features the nuts and bolts of effective advocacy, while offering personal interest stories that remind us all why we do what we do. Keep checking back for updates on this event.

New State Resources

NACDL’s website will be undergoing a major overhaul soon, but in the meantime we are in the process of purging old items and updating the state section of the website to provide you with the most current criminal justice information available. If you are aware of any pertinent articles, reports or news worthy items we should post we would be glad to do so once we gain permission.

We are also exploring new resources that will better assist us in tracking bills and in providing grassroots support to our affiliates and members. Details will be forthcoming.

Problem-Solving Courts Report

On September 29, 2009, NACDL’s Problem-Solving Courts Task Force released their report entitled America’s Problem-Solving Courts: The Criminal Costs of Treatment and the Case for Reform. Please visit the website at www.nacdl.org/drugcourts to download the report, Executive Summary, as well as read various articles generated from the report and view a short video taken from the hearings held across the country.
