Discouraging Campaign Attacks in Judicial Elections

NACDL calls upon all candidates for judicial office to refrain from personal attacks that undermine judicial independence, impugn the integrity of the judicial branch, or denigrate fundamental constitutional rights, and to pledge publicly to adhere to this request.

Whereas, NACDL believes that the independence of the judiciary is a cornerstone of liberty, an essential corollary to separation of powers, and vital to safeguard fundamental constitutional principles;

And Whereas, NACDL notes the increasing prevalence of attacks upon candidates in judicial elections that undermine judicial independence, impugn the integrity of the judicial branch, and denigrate fundamental constitution rights;

NACDL hereby calls upon all candidates for judicial office to refrain from personal attacks that undermine judicial independence, impugn the integrity of the judicial branch, or denigrate fundamental constitutional rights, and to pledge publicly to adhere to this request.
