For assistance, please note --

NACDL staff cannot provide assistance in individual cases or give legal advice, even on a pro bono basis. We also cannot make referrals to individual criminal defense lawyers. We receive a high volume of public inquiries regarding these matters each day, but we simply do not have the staff and other necessary resources to help.

Public Services NOT Available from NACDL --
    • Legal representation or assistance in individual cases
    • Referrals to criminal defense attorneys
    • Legal advice
    • Legal or scholastic research

If you are a prisoner or are seeking help on behalf of a prisoner, and the case involves a claim of innocence, please visit our Freeing the Innocent page to find contact information for an innocence project that may be able to help with post-conviction legal issues. You should send a letter directly to the appropriate innocence project explaining the circumstances of the case. In addition, the American Bar Association (ABA) provides information on obtaining legal help on their Web site, although they are also unable to provide legal assistance or advice themselves.

If you are interested in joining NACDL, please visit our Membership Information page for a description of member benefits and an online membership form.
