Program Summary: The National Academy of Sciences' Committee on the Forensic Sciences recently released a sweeping critique of evidence used to convict defendants which includes controversial recommendations that would substantially change the field. NACDL Leader Marvin Schechter participated on the task force that produced this highly anticipated report entitled: "Identifying the Needs of the Forensic Sciences Community." In this program, Mr. Schechter provides an update on the Task Force's findings and the content of the Report.

Marvin E. Schechter - A former NACDL Board Member, Mr. Schechter is a 31-year veteran attorney specializing in criminal defense. He is a past president of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and previously chaired the Indigent Defense Committees for both organizations. Schechter began his legal career as a staff attorney int he criminal defense section of the Legal Aide Society, rising to Attorney in Charge. A respected lecturer, he has served as an instructor and adjunct professor at several New York City-based law schools.
