Report On Indigent Defnese In Washington

In 2004, the ACLU of Washington published a report entitled The Unfulfilled Promise of Gideon: Washington’s Flawed System for the Defense of the Poor. The Report concludes:
  • a majority of counties in Washington have no standards governing the provision of indigent defense services;
  • the state provides no oversight of the indigent defense system in Washington;
  • the various county systems throughout the state are grossly underfunded and under-staffed.
