About Wyoming Indigent Defense

Structure Wyoming uses a public defender system. The Wyoming Public Defender’s Office is an independent agency operating under the executive branch of the state government. The Public Defender has 16 offices located around the state to serve the legal needs of the various counties.

Funding State Public Defender services receive funding largely from Wyoming State Legislature. Other funding comes from State Salary Parity Increases and Workforce Development funds.

The Public Defender’s Office recently completed a second trial in the murder case of Floyd DeWayne Grady, during which he was convicted on several counts, including first degree murder. The defense successfully persuaded the jury that the death penalty was not appropriate. The jury instead chose to give him life without possibility of parole.
