The site includes introductory remarks by Mr. Sullivan; the full compendium in PDF form; a state map that features the most up to date information on pending/enacted legislation and case law; a list of international jurisdictions that record; a bibliography of books and articles on recording interrogations; information on Federal agencies and more.

Please join us as Mr. Sullivan discusses the resource on Wednesday April 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Please RSVP to scjn@nacdl.org.

The link to the full compendium and resources is live and can be accessed here

NACDL Witness Fund
As some of you wind down your legislative sessions, this is a reminder of NACDL’s Witness Fund. The funds are available to affiliate members who seek to bring in a witness to testify at a legislative hearing or commission meeting.  Funds are limited and require an application that can be requested from Angelyn C. Frazer, at afrazer@nacdl.org.
NACDL Hosts Gideon’s Army

NACDL, along with OSI and ACS will host a screening of Gideon’s Army at NACDL offices located at 1660 L Street, NW 12th Floor, Washington, DC 20036  on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 12:00 pm. Snacks will be served. RSVP at http://gideonsarmy1.eventbrite.com.

Gideon’s Army follows the personal stories of Travis Williams, Brandy Alexander and June Hardwick, three young public defenders who are part of a small group of idealistic lawyers in the Deep South challenging the assumptions that drive a criminal justice system strained to the breaking point.

Backed by mentor Jonathan “Rap” Rapping, a charismatic leader who heads the Southern Public Defender Training Center (now known as Gideon’s Promise) they struggle against long hours, low pay and staggering caseloads so common that even the most committed often give up in their first year. Nearly 50 years since the landmark Supreme Court ruling Gideon vs. Wainwright that established the right to counsel, can these courageous lawyers revolutionize the way America thinks about indigent defense and make “justice for all” a reality?
