A Write of Passage: Richard Bing Retires  

NACDL is an organization that is far-flung and diverse and more than anything else, it is The Champion that binds us. This comes as a surprise to no one, since the magazine consistently provides information and advice that we can use in our day-to-day practices. It keeps us up-to-date on issues of importance within NACDL, on trends in the courts, and developments in government on the federal and state level. Also, The Champion provides a forum for criminal defense lawyers throughout the United States and abroad.
But far too few of us know Richard Bing, the editor who has worked tirelessly to ensure that The Champion remains the preeminent publication for criminal defense lawyers. Richard achieved this stature in his own quiet, modest, and self-effacing style. This July 2006 edition of the magazine is Richard’s final issue as he retires from NACDL after more than 15 years.
