Farrell Receives Champion of Justice Humanitarian Award
Mike Farrell, president of Death Penalty Focus, was presented with
NACDL’s 2007 Champion of Justice Civic/Humanitarian Award Feb. 22 at the
Midwinter Meeting in San Diego. President Martin S. Pinales presented
the award.
A writer, producer, director, and actor who became well known for his
eight years as B.J. Honeycutt on “M*A*S*H,” Farrell is now also a
well-known human rights advocate. He is co-chair emeritus of Human
Rights Watch in Southern California and a co-founder of Artists United
to Win Without War. As president of Death Penalty Focus
(www.deathpenalty.org), Farrell speaks, writes, and works to abolish capital punishment.
“I believe in the dignity of people, all people,” Farrell told
conference attendees at a special award reception. “And I think it is a
crime to presume that any human being is only the worst thing that he or
