Tribute to William B. Moffitt
The mission of NACDL is to promote the proper and fair administration of justice. Perhaps this is the reason William B. Moffitt, who died on April 24, 2009, found a home at NACDL and thrived within the organization. Moffitt served as NACDL’s president from 1999 to 2000, and was the perfect person to lead the organization into the new millennium.
Bill Moffitt was not afraid to represent unpopular defendants. His trial work included a courtroom victory as co-counsel for Dr. Sami al-Arian, a college professor indicted on 51 terrorism charges under the Patriot Act. In this trial and countless others, Moffitt exhibited his skills and earned a reputation as a powerful voice for criminal defendants.
