Bonnie Hoffman is the Deputy Public Defender for the 20th Judicial Circuit of Virginia. The 20th Judicial Circuit covers several counties in Northern Virginia and employs 15 attorneys, and 8 support staff.
She earned her law degree from George Mason University School of Law in 1994 and her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1991.
Her practice includes vertical representation of both adults and juveniles, handling cases from arraignment through direct appeals. During her 16 plus years with the Public Defender’s Office, Bonnie has tried numerous bench and jury trials ranging from driving under the influence on a farm tractor to rape, robbery and first degree murder. She has briefed and argued numerous cases before the Virginia Court of Appeals and the Virginia Supreme Court.
She serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and is co-chair of NACDL’s Indigent Defense Committee. She has been a member of NACDL for 14 years.
