In 2018, Florida voters overwhelmingly (64.55%) passed Amendment 4, a constitutional amendment to restore the voting rights of returning citizens (Floridians with felony convictions) once they complete all terms of their sentence. Since March 2022, dozens of returning citizens who registered to vote, received a voter card, and voted in reliance of that card, have been prosecuted for voting while ineligible, The Office of Election Crimes and Security has reported investigating over 1,100 similar cases, so more voter prosecutions can be underway.

NACDL and Florida Rights Restoration Coalition provide criminal defense attorneys interested in assisting individuals facing these charges with the necessary information, resources, and tools needed to provide an effective defense.
