There will be (2) different types of scholarships available for this event ranging from partially discounted to fully funded. Each type of scholarship has different application requirements. To apply for any of the following scholarships, please follow the instructions for that specific scholarship.
Option 1: Needs Based Scholarships
NACDL will offer a number of registration scholarships to this seminar for State or Federal Defenders and CJA Panel Attorneys.
NACDL membership is required for all scholarships. If you are not a member of NACDL, please join prior to applying for a scholarship. To apply for a scholarship, send a letter of no more than two pages expressing interest and the reason you believe you should receive the grant. E-mail the letter to NACDL Director of Events Tamara Kalacevic, at email@example.com - or fax it to 202-872-8690. All applications must be submitted before registering for the seminar.
Option 2: NACDL Public Defense Training Scholarships
As a result of generous grant funding, NACDL is able to offer scholarship assistance to public defense providers to attend this NACDL training program. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of full or partial reimbursement of the registration costs of the program. Limited travel reimbursement stipends may also be awarded to qualifying individuals to help defray the costs of travel and lodging.
Do you qualify for one of these Scholarships?
Demonstrated financial need is required to qualify for registration
and/or travel assistance. Scholarships are available for full time
public defenders, contract counsel, and private appointed counsel.
Membership in NACDL is not required to receive scholarship assistance
under the public defense training scholarship. Scholarship recipients
are expected to complete a pre- and post-training survey for the
training program that they attend. Preference will be given to
individuals with a high ratio of appointed to retained work, and those
willing and able to pass on what they have learned to other public
defense providers in their community.
Scholarship applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with review
of applications for a particular program beginning approximately three
months prior to the start date of the program. Applicants who are
seeking travel assistance should submit their applications at least six
weeks prior to the start date of a program for the best chance of
receiving travel awards. Applications received less than three weeks
prior to the program date (after May 25) will not be considered.
