S. 456, The Gang Abatement and Prevention Act of 2007
The Gang Abatement and Prevention Act of 2007 tempers the traditional tenets of a gang bill (increased penalties, broader definitions of gang membership, federalization of local crimes) with some money toward prevention and intervention. The bill is still heavily weighted toward prosecution, federalization, and enforcement. S. 456, introduced by Sen. Diane Feinstein and Sen. Orrin Hatch, passed the Senate on September 21, 2007, and has been referred to House Judiciary, Energy and Commerce, and Education and Labor Committees.
