Defense Community Mourns Death of Dan Schoen
Dan Schoen, the executive director of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar (CCDB), a passionate advocate of criminal justice efforts in Colorado, and death penalty opponent, died on Oct. 15, 2013, from natural causes at the age of 45.
CCDB President Sean McDermott said, “Dan was a tireless fighter and had just guided the CCDB through its most successful legislative session in years. For the last three years, Dan has been the ever-beating heart to the CCDB. His tireless dedication to the health and well-being of our clients and members became a passion for him. His compassion and sense of justice were inspiring. We mourn him deeply and the loss to his loving family.”
NACDL President Jerry J. Cox said that Schoen “served as a powerful voice for defendants. He was committed to restoring justice to the criminal justice system.” NACDL State Legislative Affairs Director Angelyn C. Frazer noted that Schoen’s work will continue through others
