FACDL Honors Annino And Gowdy At its annual meeting, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (FACDL) presented Professor Paolo Annino and Bryan S. Gowdy with the prestigious Steven M. Goldstein Criminal Justice Award for their work on Graham v. Florida before the U.S. Supreme Court, a case that represented a major victory in the realm of juvenile advocacy. Professor Annino is a national leader in helping children in the foster care and justice systems. Gowdy argued and prevailed in the case in which the Court ruled the Eighth Amendment categorically prohibits “life without parole” sentences for juvenile offenders convicted of only non-homicides. FACDL presents its Goldstein Award annually to individuals who, through their service and achievements, encourage others within the criminal justice system to act with integrity, independence, expertise, and courage to protect and defend the rights of others.
