Resolution of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Underwriting up to $25,000 Proposed Indigent Defense Litigation in Virginia

The Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers hereby resolves as follows:
WHEREAS Virginia has the lowest fees for court appointed attorneys of any state in the country;
WHEREAS there are non-waivable caps on court appointed attorneys fees in Virginia;
WHEREAS low fees impede the ability of court appointed attorneys in Virginia to provide adequate and effective representation to indigent defendants; and
WHEREAS the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is committed to furthering indigent defense systems which ensure quality representation of all accused individuals;
NOW, THEREFORE,
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers endorses, supports, and agrees to underwrite up to $25,000 the proposed indigent defense litigation in Virginia.
Director John Zwerling is the coordinator for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for the purposes of this litigation.
